For this website, the goal was to stop using a third-party registration system which the client had outgrown and to bring the whole site into Expression Engine. Developer Debra Weiss used Solspace’s Calendar module for the calendar, and instead of CartThrob functioning as a “shopping cart”, it’s being used as a booking and registration system. According to Debra “it’s doing it very, very well.” She’s also happy for the coupon system: “[it’s] working out great for thousands of Groupon and Living Social customers.”
Dynamite Performing Arts wanted to make the class registration much simpler. With Cartthrob and Safecraker parents (Members in EE) can add multiple students entries to their account, and pay for them. A ‘sibling discount’ plugin automatically gives a discount when a second student is registered for classes within the same term and by the same member.
Bionic Turtle is a practice and training website for the risk and finance industries. This site was developed by Shawn Maida (eecoder) and designed by Creative Soapbox. Shawn had the following to say about the project:
“we replaced a custom ordering system with an extended version of CartThrob. The results have been fantastic and the client has been thrilled. 15,000+ members access subscription controlled content on Bionic Turtle with CartThrob sitting at the very heart of the system.”
In addition to CartThrob’s out of the box capabilities, it was also extended to add new functionality for this project. Some of the additions include Cybersource API Integration for payment processing, Paypal Express API Integration for payment processing, iContact API Integration for newsletter subscriptions, Third Party API Integration for communicating successful order transactions to affiliates, Custom Content Access Controls provide category and status based content access
The CartThrob team is pretty impressed with what Shawn and his team built. It’s a well designed and well built system, and really shows what you can do with CartThrob as the foundation of a larger system.
Thomas Winterstetter’s cart is nicely tucked into an overall well designed site. The flexibility of CartThrob enables a profound cohesiveness to the entire system. Andy Harris says it best: “As part of our update for DestinationSkin, we used CartThrob to bring their online store together with the main site as previously it was a third party add on. It was painless to simply add the CartThrob tags to our existing designs, and we weren’t made to compromise on design. Support was second to none, and we’re already looking forward to our next CartThrob site.”
Alphatastic create personalised prints of children’s names. Site designer John Cowen had this to say: “Site design is simple and colourful to match the style of artwork on the prints. Using CartThrob it’s easy to create products with lots of customisable options - different sizes, setting the name and extra message for artworking - plus a framing option. The combination of Expression Engine and CartThrob gives you real confidence in being able to develop the site to meet any future requirements.”
Puregrips is a very well built site. From user interface & usability, both large details and small are all handled with a high level of design maturity and simple elegance. The integration of CartThrob is seamless. This is the way an ecommerce site should behave.
